Kathryn Tappen, a New Jersey native and WJAR-10 newcomer is a welcome addition to the New England sports scene. Tappen’s keen insight and articulateness serve her well as the weekend sports anchor and weekday sports reporter for NBC 10 Sports.
Kathryn was an Academic-All American at Rutgers University where she was a member of the Scarlet Knights cross country and track and field team. She is also a six-time varsity letter-winner, Academic All American, Big East Academic All Star, and former record holder in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Not only was Tappen a serious athlete and scholar during her Rutgers’ days, but it was also during this time that she applied the same tenacity to her future career. Kathryn began pursuing her profession by entering and ultimately WINNING the inaugural College Sports Television tryouts. While at the College Sports Television, Kathryn hosted “The One College Sports Show,” “At the Buzzer” and “First Person,” and interviewed celebrities for major Hollywood films covered by CSTV.
RhodyGolf.com had the privilege of playing with Kathryn on the RhodyGolf.com golf team for the recent First Swing Rhode Island Golf Tournament held on August 9th at Cranston Country Club. Her athletic prowess is evident by her long, graceful golf swing. However, it was her ‘flat-stick’ that made the biggest impact on this day when Tappen sunk both a birdie and an eagle putt for team RhodyGolf.com.
